We are volunteer School Pastors at Uplands Community College in Wadhurst and our role is to be a listening ear to any student who needs someone to talk to – whether they want to chat about career ideas, exam pressures or friendship fallouts.
We are the first team of School Pastors in East Sussex, but there are over 30 initiatives across the UK and they all responds to the needs of their school.
School Pastors are the idea of a charity called The Ascension Trust, which also runs other initiatives such as Street Pastors, Rail Pastors, and Prayer Pastors.
These groups respond to needs in their local community and we have all completed a training program in a variety of subjects including safe guarding, listening skills and mental health awareness.
Do you want to join the team?
We would love to see the team made up of Christians from all the local communities that send children to Uplands Community College. If you’d like to be a School Pastor – you need to be available one lunchtime a week between 13:15 – 14:15 – email Hollie Butler for more information. You don’t need to have any special skills, just a heart for young people, a listening ear and a willingness to learn.
You will receive initial training – which is organised locally if possible – and training and uniform is provided free of charge.
We also have a dedicated team of Prayer Pastors that meet on Friday afternoons 2 – 3:15pm at Carillon Cottage. You could join us in prayer and even ask for prayer for yourself if you are considering training as a School Pastor. Contact the Prayer Team via Hollie.
